Who Should Not Get Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty Risk Factors

Not everyone is a good candidate for blepharoplasty. As we stated on the previous page, you need to have realistic expectations and be in good health. In addition, there are some medical conditions which increase the risk of complications from blepharoplasty. These risk factors are:

  • Hyperthyroidism
  • "Dry Eye" or problems with your tear ducts.
  • Graves' disease
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Detached retina

Your plastic surgeon should ask you about your health during the consultation. Make sure you tell him or her about any medical condition you have so that you and your plastic surgeon can make the best choice. If you are being treated for any of the conditions listed above, you should also discuss your desire to have blepharoplasty with your family doctor or specialist, in case they have additional concerns that you should share with your plastic surgeon.
