Cheek Augmentation Surgery
The Cheek Implant Procedure
What to expect during your cheek augmentation surgery
Most cheek augmentation surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure can be performed in a dedicated surgical center, a hospital or in a surgery suite at your plastic surgeon's office.
The cheek augmentation procedure can be performed while the patient is under general anesthesia or local anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will determine which is the best option in your particular case.
Cheek augmentation surgery typically takes about an hour. If you are having other procedures done at the same time, the duration of the surgery may be longer.
To place the cheek implants, your plastic surgeon will make and incision either inside your upper lip, or inside your lower eyelid. Working through this incision, your plastic surgeon will create a pocket in which the implant will be placed. This allows placement of the cheek implant without creating an outwardly visible scar.
After surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room and monitored until you are discharged to go home.
You will need transportation home, and you may want to arrange to have someone look after you for a day or two after your surgery.
