Preparing Your Facelift Recovery Area

Preparing your facelift recovery area

The time to set up your recovery area is before you come home after surgery. Plan well, since you won't be leaving the house to pick up things you forgot!  The following is partial list to get you started. If you have any other suggestions, please forward them to me and I can update the facelift recovery area list. ([email protected])

  • Ice bags or cool packs (Your surgeon will recommend a schedule) - Another suggestion from FaceForum's visitors is frozen peas in a plastic freezer bag. They conform to the contour of your face and when they melt, they don't leak out like water would.
  • Fill all your prescriptions.
  • Keep a thermometer nearby to check your temperature if you feel feverish. (This is rare, but you don't want to be hunting for the thermometer in the event you need it.)
  • Extra dressing for your wounds - Gauze, bandages, etc.
  • Any balms, ointments or creams that you are supposed to put on your incisions.
  • Washcloths and towels
  • Magazines, books and other reading material.
  • A comfortable place to sit, where you can keep your head elevated per your plastic surgeon's instructions.  Some people swear by recliners. Others say a sofa works best.
  • Pillows. (Lots of them!)
  • If you plan on watching television during the first few days after your facelift, make sure that the TV set is located where you can see it while you are in the "recovery position".  Make sure you have good batteries in the remote.
  • Shirts that open from the front so you don't have to put them on or take them off over your head. A jacket or sweater that is front-opening is also a good thing to keep nearby.
  • Blankets, in case you feel chilly.
  • Place a telephone nearby. Keep a list of numbers, including your plastic surgeon's contact numbers, handy. If you want, program them into speed dial, but make sure to test them. You don't want to rely on the speed-dial function if it is mis-programmed!
  • A supply of beverages and convenience foods that do not require preparation.
