Dr. Bill Alison grew up in Huntsville, Alabama. His father was a distinguished obstetrician for over 35 years. He is a Huntsville High graduate and Suma Cum Laude from Washington & Lee University. After attending medical school at UAB, he completed a General Surgery residency at Tulane in New Orleans. The emphasis was on trauma and critical care at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. During this time he spent a year of research at the Shriners Burn Institute in Galveston, Texas. His research included national publications on infections in nerve injury and burn scar contractures. He also contributed a book chapter on pediatric burn trauma. He worked extensively on several early growth hormone, growth factor and wound healing projects. His interest turned to Plastic Surgery where he completed his residency at Vanderbilt University. In this training, he learned the obvious Plastic & Reconstructive surgery, but also innovative hormone manipulation, cultivated skin grafting and critical care while running Vanderbilt’s burn center.
